The Scotch College community is in mourning following the heartbreaking death of 16-year-old student William “Will” Wood, who tragically died by suicide on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
Will was the beloved son of Stuart and Samantha Wood and a deeply cherished brother to Charlotte, Amelia, and Annabel. He was also adored by his grandparents — Esther and Barry, and Tim and Pamon — who held immense pride in his character, achievements, and the light he brought into their lives.
At Scotch College, Will was known for his kindness, intelligence, and quiet sense of humor. Teachers and classmates remember him as a bright, thoughtful student whose gentle spirit and sincerity left a lasting impression. His presence was described as a source of warmth and positivity — someone who made others feel valued and at ease.
Family and friends remember Will as a devoted son and brother, a confidant, and a loyal friend who brought laughter, compassion, and genuine care to every relationship he held. His life, though tragically short, was marked by empathy, curiosity, and a quiet strength that inspired those around him.
As the school community grapples with this devastating loss, tributes have poured in from classmates, teachers, and friends who describe Will as “a beautiful soul with a kind heart and a bright future.” The grief extends far beyond the school grounds, touching all who were fortunate to know him.
A service to celebrate Will’s life will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, 81 Toorak Road, Toorak. Family, friends, and members of the Scotch College community are invited to attend and pay their respects.
In the wake of Will’s passing, mental health advocates and school officials are reminding students and families of the importance of seeking support during times of grief and distress. Counseling services have been made available through the school and community support networks.
Will’s death is a painful reminder of the challenges young people can face — and of the need for compassion, understanding, and open conversations about mental health. His memory will live on in the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the lasting impact of his kindness.
May he rest in peace. His light will continue to shine through those who knew and loved him.
