The Academic Magnet High School community is mourning the loss of Tyson McCormick, a beloved teacher, mentor, and friend who passed away Thursday morning following an 18-month battle with brain cancer. Tyson’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his students, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
For more than a decade, Tyson was a cornerstone of Academic Magnet — a teacher whose passion for education was matched only by his compassion for his students. His classroom was a place of inspiration and belonging, where curiosity was celebrated, and every student felt seen and valued. Known for his calm demeanor and quiet strength, Tyson had a unique ability to make learning meaningful while nurturing confidence and creativity in those he taught.
Even as he faced his own health challenges, Tyson’s dedication to his students never wavered. He continued to teach, encourage, and inspire, often prioritizing their growth and well-being over his own struggles.
