Authorities are investigating a fatal crash in the town of Sheldon that claimed the life of an 18-year-old Enosburgh woman and left another driver critically injured on Friday evening.

According to the Vermont State Police, the incident began around 6:27 p.m. on October 10, when a trooper attempted to stop a silver 2010 Honda Crosstour for speeding on Vermont Route 105, just west of Colton Road. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Aryanna Flemming, 18, of Enosburgh, failed to stop and continued westbound at a high rate of speed.

Police say the trooper did not pursue the vehicle after it failed to stop. Approximately two minutes later, the trooper came upon the scene of a two-vehicle crash involving the same Honda Crosstour and a 2000 Toyota Tundra.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Flemming’s vehicle veered off the westbound shoulder of Route 105 before losing control and crossing back over both lanes of traffic. The Honda collided head-on with the Toyota Tundra driven by Andrea Dillner, 36, of Fletcher.

Flemming was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities confirmed. Dillner sustained serious injuries and was first taken to Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans before being transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington for further treatment.

The Sheldon Fire Department, Enosburgh Ambulance, and AmCare Ambulance assisted at the scene. Route 105 was closed for several hours as investigators worked to reconstruct the crash and clear the roadway.

The Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash, including speed and other potential contributing factors.

Officials have not released any further details at this time.
